Gospel Fifth Sunday of Easter

Gospel

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John                        John 14:1-12

Jesus said to his disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust God and trust me (Jesus).  There are many rooms in my Father’s house.  I would not tell you this if there were no rooms.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And after I have gone and prepared a place for you, I will come back and take you myself, so that you will always be with me.  You know the way to the place I am going.”

Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”  Jesus answered, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”  No one can come to the Father but only through me.  If you know me, you also know my Father.  Now you know him and you have seen him.”

Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied.”  Jesus said to him, “Philip, I have been with you for a long time and still you don’t know me?  If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.  So why do you say, ‘Let us see the Father?’  Do you really believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?  The words I spoke to you, they are not my words.  These words are from the Father.  He lives in me and he is working through me.  You must believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.    If you can’t believe, then try and believe because of the things I did.    I tell you the truth, any person that believes in me will do the same work as myself.  Yes, that person will do greater (better) works, because I am going to the Father.”
