Third Sunday of Easter “B”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
(Lk. 24:35-48)
The two disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and the way they had recognized Jesus when he broke the bread. While they were talking, Jesus himself appeared and stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you!” They were terrified, thinking that they were seeing a ghost. But he said to them, “Why are you afraid? Why doubt? Look at my hands and feet. Yes, it is me, Jesus. Touch me. You see I have a real body. A ghost has no flesh and bones but I have.” Jesus showed them his hands and feet.
The disciples stood there not knowing what to say, they still could not believe, they were so full of joy. Jesus said to them, “Have you anything to eat?” They gave him a piece of grilled fish. Jesus took and ate the fish in front of them.
Then he told them, “This is what I meant when I was with you before. I explained to you that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms, must happen.” He opened their minds so that they could understand the Scriptures (Bible). “You know that the Scriptures (Bible) say Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead. The Scriptures (Bible) also say that all people should repent and have their sins forgiven in his name. Also the preaching of forgiveness must be spread to peoples all over the world, starting from here in Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.”
