Gospel Second Sunday of Lent A

Gospel Second Sunday of Lent A

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.            Matthew 17:1-9.

Jesus went up a high mountain with Peter and the two brothers James and John.  They were alone with Jesus.  The three disciples saw Jesus change.  His face became bright like the sun.  His clothes were white like light.  Suddenly, two men appeared, Moses and Elijah, and they were talking with Jesus, “Lord it is wonderful for us to be here, if you want, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

While Peter was talking, a bright cloud came, and the shadow covered the three disciples.  A voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, dearly loved.  I am pleased with him.  Listen to him.”  When the disciples heard the voice, they fell to the ground, terrified.  But Jesus came and touched them.  He said, “Stand up.  Do not be afraid.”  Then they looked up and saw no one but only Jesus.

When they walked down the mountain, Jesus gave them this order, “Tell no one about the things you saw today.   Wait until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”

The Gospel of the Lord.
