Second Sunday of Easter “A”
Gospel
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John. John20:19-31
In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the disciples were together in the room, and the doors were closed and locked, because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, “Peace be with you.” He showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy because they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.” Jesus breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive people’s sins, their sins are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, the sins are not forgiven.”
One of the twelve apostles, Thomas, was not there. Later the disciples told him, “We saw the Lord.” Thomas answered, “I refuse to believe until I see the holes in his hands and touch them. I will not believe until I see the hole in his side and touch it.” Eight days later, the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were locked, but Jesus came in stood among them. He said, “Peace be with you.” Then Jesus spoke to Thomas, “Look touch my hands. Put your hand in my side and feel it. Doubt no more, but believe.” Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God.”
Jesus said to them, “You believed because you can see me . But the people that have not seen me and still believe, they are truly blessed.”
Jesus did many other miracles and the disciples saw them. But all these other miracles are not written in this book. All the miracles included in this book, are to help you to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that because you believe you can have life through his name.
The Gospel of the Lord.
